ABOUT ALYCE

My Approach

My approach has always been simple: learn deeply, master the craft, and then share what I’ve learned to make the path easier for others.

I began my career focused on becoming the best paediatric occupational therapist I could be. In those early years, I immersed myself in learning attending professional development, reading widely, and continually building my clinical knowledge and skills.

From early on, I knew I wanted to work in private practice supporting children and families who might otherwise fall through the cracks. My work has always been grounded in relationships, and over time I learned how to support families effectively, not just children.

After becoming a parent myself, I began to see how easily therapy can overlook the realities of family life. This insight now shapes the way I teach and mentor, focusing not only on what to do clinically, but how to make that work within the context of everyday life.

Building a Practice & Recognising the Gap

In 2017, I established my private practice, Sensational Start OT, and spent the next seven years building and leading a paediatric occupational therapy service across Lake Macquarie and the Central Coast of NSW.

As Director, I led a team of occupational therapists, allied health assistants, and administrative staff, many in the early stages of their careers while navigating the clinical, operational, and leadership realities of running a practice.

During this time, I began noticing a growing gap in the profession.

With increasing demand for paediatric services, particularly through the NDIS, more therapists were being placed into paediatric roles. While the need was clear, many were doing so without the guidance, structure, or support required to develop confidence in what has traditionally been a specialised area of practice.

Creating Practical Support & Expanding the Impact

In response, I developed The Art of Paediatric Therapy in 2018. A workshop providing practical learning, structure, and guidance for therapists navigating paediatric practice.

Around the same time, I began offering external clinical supervision and mentoring to therapists outside of my own service.

Through this work, I developed practical frameworks and tools to help therapists translate knowledge into clear, confident practice particularly within the realities of everyday family life.

Much of my early work focused on supporting therapists in the early stages of their careers.

Over time, this expanded to supporting therapists across all stages of practice, including leaders and business owners as they grew their services.

I came to see that supporting therapists allowed me to impact far more children and families than I ever could through my own clinical caseload alone.

The OT Coach Australia

As this work grew, The OT Coach Australia began to take shape.

What started as mentoring and professional conversations became a more structured way of supporting therapists through workshops, learning communities, and professional development.

In 2024, I made the decision to close Sensational Start OT and focus fully on supporting therapists across Australia.

Today, I support occupational therapists, leaders, and business owners through mentoring, training, podcasts, and the communities within The OT Coach Academy.

My work focuses on helping therapists:

  • think clearly about their practice
  • grow in their roles
  • navigate the realities of the profession
  • strengthen the quality of services they provide to clients and families
