The Art of Paediatric Therapy
Develop clinical reasoning, confidence and direction in your paediatric practice
Real life paediatric practice is complex. University training doesn’t always prepare us for providing quality paediatric intervention.
It’s not just about what to do in a session. It’s about understanding why you’re doing it, when to use it, how to apply it, and how it fits within the child, the family and the context you’re working in. This is why it is an art, not just a set of strategies.
This training has been running since 2018 and has supported hundreds of therapists to build confidence in their paediatric practice.
Live training runs January and July. Self-paced available anytime.
WHAT THIS TRAINING IS
The Art of Paediatric Therapy is a four day training designed for occupational therapists working in paediatric practice.
Each day builds on the previous, bringing your thinking together into a clear and structured approach to the full therapy process. From the moment a client is referred through to reviewing whether your service is actually working.
The visual alongside shows what that process looks like in practice. Most therapists piece this together over years of trial and error. This training gives you the full picture from the start — including all the things nobody tells you when you are starting out in paediatric practice.
And if you have been practising for a while, there is something valuable in seeing it all laid out clearly too. Sometimes the most useful thing is having language for what you already know, and a framework that confirms you are on the right track.
WHAT YOU’LL WORK THROUGH
This training is built around how paediatric practice actually works.
- therapy models and approaches, and how they inform your thinking
- the context you’re working in, including funding and service delivery
- a clear therapy framework to guide your work
- therapeutic use of self and how you show up as a therapist
- working with children and families, including caregiver capacity
- assessment, goal setting and how this links to intervention
- intervention in practice, including having a baseline of interventions to work from so you can get moving
You’ll also work across a broad range of areas including parent coaching, feeding, self care, toileting, handwriting, executive functioning, motor skills, emotional regulation and sensory processing.
The focus is not on covering everything in depth, but on giving you a clear reference point to move forward.
You will be provided various clinical tools and templates to use in practice.
You’ll also be guided on where to access further information and training in each of these areas as your practice develops.
WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT
This is not a collection of strategies or activities. It is a way of thinking about paediatric practice.
Most therapists are left to piece this together over time. This training brings it together into a clear and structured approach you can use in your day-to-day work.
This is why it works across different stages of your career.
